Container station for aseptic filling and emptying

Filling of transport containers with minimal loss

For producers of foods, pharmaceuticals, body and health care products and chemicals, Ruland offers tailor-made container stations. They use it for the handling of stainless steel mobile containers for the transport or intermediate storage of liquid products. 

Among other things, the advantage of this packaging is that they are genuinely re-usable. Their durability contributes to avoid waste and to conserve natural resources. For sensitive products, as in the foods industry, the manual connection of the container to the production unit (mixer, mixing station, etc.) or the filling unit is critical as the system is opened and microorganisms could penetrate. The Ruland container station eliminates the microbiological risk. The complete process is automated and documented. 

Where high standards of hygiene are required, special measures are necessary to ensure microbiological safety. Both the container and the piping associated with need to be sterilised. For less sensitive products, the measures are less complex. All production facilities need an operator-friendly, safe container station. 

For operator-friendly, time-saving handling, Ruland uses a pneumatic connector. It enables a leakage proof connection. The actuator is engineered to assure a safe connection even air is lost.

The product and service media valves are welded directly onto this pneumatic connector to keep dead space to a minimum and to assure very low product losses. The filling head has handles and is attached to a cantilever arm with balancer for easy, weight-free handling. 

The valves used for sterile filling meet aseptic process engineering specifications as diaphragm valves. If required, a sampling facility can be integrated. 

Temperature and pressure measurements are captured in both the feed line and the container for sterility control and monitoring. The key process parameters are set data in the control. The automated process after connection of the filling head to the container comprises the following steps:

Input product data such as operator’s name, customer data, product, batch number, tank capacity, tank number, filling weight

  • Sterilise piping with time and temperature monitoring
  • Blow dry pipes
  • Open container valve/fill tank/close container valve
  • Rinse filling head
  • Blow out rinsing water from filling head
  • Disconnect filling head
  • Batch end or change of container 

A weighing module that can be calibrated measures exactly the container content. Bar code readers can read in directly the container number. Furthermore the control can be connected with other superior systems and can exchange dates with these systems. 

The process is displayed with a touch panel. There is also the possibility of data recording and archiving of the complete process, and thus keeping records on compliance of critical parameter.
