Demeter stands for biodynamic products. This oldest ecological form of farming goes back to the ideas of Rudolf Steiner, who also initiated Waldorf education and anthroposophical healing at the beginning of the 20th century. The pioneers of organic farming have succeeded in continuously developing Demeter as a modern and sustainable form of cultivation. Biodynamic farming is now regarded as the most sustainable form of agriculture. It ensures that the humus layer grows continuously. This has been proven by independent research that has investigated the differences between conventional, organic and biodynamic cultivation for more than 20 years. This is particularly important in view of climate change, because large amounts of carbon dioxide are bound in humus, which counteracts the greenhouse effect. Self-produced, subtle preparations made from manure, medicinal plants and minerals sustainably promote soil fertility in biodynamic agriculture and fully develop the characteristic aroma of the food. The range extends from antipasti to baby food, from wine to rusks, from Demeter cotton to cosmetics. With an unprecedented co-brand strategy, Demeter guarantees the consumer biodynamic quality, while the manufacturer vouches for the careful processing with its name. In Germany, around 1400 farmers farm biodynamically on over 68,000 hectares of land. Demeter e. V. also includes around 330 Demeter producers and processors as well as contractual partners from the organic food and health food wholesale trade. More than 500 Demeter Active Partner (DAP) stores in Germany are particularly committed to biodynamic quality. As an international organic brand, Demeter is represented on all continents. From Argentina to Hungary, around 8,000 farmers in around 50 countries with around 160,000 hectares of land are certified biodynamic according to the consistent Demeter standards. Worldwide sales of Demeter products are estimated at around 220 million euros.
