The "Herkunftsverband Thüringer und Eichsfelder Wurst und Fleisch e.V." is a voluntary association of producers of Thuringian sausage specialties, which is dedicated to maintaining the tradition of sausage production and protecting their products. Thuringian sausage has an unmistakable taste. It is of high quality and goes back to a centuries-old tradition of production. The Thuringian Rostbratwurst stands for the high school of the Thuringian art of sausage making, it is the best-known German specialty, it is an ambassador and image bearer for Thuringian cuisine and cellars. The Association of Origin sees itself not only as the guardian of the Thuringian Rostbratwurst and the other protected sausage specialties of the Free State of Thuringia, but also as the guardian of the "Rostbratwurst(kult)ur", because the unmistakable charcoal grill - and the resulting method of preparation - is just as much a part of the Rostbratwurst as Thuringian beer and Thuringian mustard. Nowhere else in Germany are there so many charcoal barbecues smoking on summer evenings and at garden parties as in Thuringia.
