McDonald's sees appetite for its food grow despite sinking profits
Fast-food giant McDonald's saw an increase in customers worldwide in the third quarter as sales at established restaurants rose 3.5 per cent, the company said Friday.
However, revenues fell 3 per cent to 6.4 billion dollars, impacted partially by last year's move to sell more company-owned outlets to franchisees.
Net profits fell slightly to 1.28 billion dollars from 1.31 billion dollars in third quarter of last year.
In the US market sales rose 1.3 per cent amid competition from newer, higher-end fast-food outlets such as Shake Shack and long-time rivals like Burger King and Wendy's.
McDonald's has been helped in its home market by all-day breakfast sales that have drawn more customers for Egg McMuffins and other specialities. (dpa)
