Tiergesundheitsdienst Bayern e.V.

Tiergesundheitsdienst Bayern e.V. (TGD) was founded in 1969 as a self-help organization for Bavarian agriculture. Members of the association are the associations active at state level in the field of animal breeding and animal production. The beginnings of the animal health service date back to 1920, when sheep breeders began to organize a procedure to combat sheep mange. In 1936, the poultry health service was set up to combat epidemic poultry diseases that were causing losses. The establishment of the cattle health service on October 24, 1949 was a decisive impulse for further development and - if you like - the birth of today's animal health service. The small animal health service followed in 1953, the pig health service in 1958 and the sheep health service in 1960. After completion of the central institute and administration building in Grub near Munich, the four health services, which had previously been separated according to animal species, were merged into a joint organization, the Tiergesundheitsdienst Bayern e.V., in January 1971. The fish health service was also founded at this time. The horse health service was established in 1975.
