About REN Roasted Energy Food

For us, roasted barley is the best basis for our delicious vegan bars, healthy organic muesli and a balanced diet.

While barley in Germany is mainly associated with the production of beer, the Tibetans give it a much more central role in their diet - and for good reason. The fact that Tsampa has held an important position in Tibetan culture and the Buddhist faith for more than 1,000 years is mainly due to its excellent energy and nutritional properties.

Even before the Tibetans adopted the Buddhist faith, they used barley to prepare food. The inclusion of tsampa in rituals gave the food its nickname as "food of the gods".

Because Tsampa has always been used as a travel food by the Sherpas and nomads, its preparation is quite simple: the barley flour is filled into a traditional Tibetan bag and usually mixed with butter tea, a mixture of water and yak butter.

Small tsampa balls (Pa) can be formed from this mixture. If the proportion of butter tea is greater, a tsampa soup (tsamthuk) is formed. By adding various spices, tsampa can be given an ever new taste.
