Lantmännen Research Foundation opens SEK 25 million call for agriculture and food research
On 17 June, Lantmännen Research Foundation opens its annual call, with a budget of SEK 25 million. Researchers are now invited to apply for funding for projects within agriculture, food, health, bioenergy and green materials. Lantmännen has recently contributed SEK 300 million to the foundation, strengthening its long-term work in research and innovation. The foundation is also launching a new newsletter for researchers, farmers and others who want to follow its work more closely.
Lantmännen Research Foundation was established 40 years ago to meet the need for more research and innovation in agriculture and food.
Lantmännen has recently contributed SEK 300 million to Lantmännen Research Foundation. The capital contribution strengthens the foundation’s long-term capacity to fund demand-driven research and development within the agriculture and food sectors.
"We could see that there was a lack of both funding and initiative for research and innovation in our industry. We felt a responsibility to act and had the means to do so," says Jan-Erik Hansson, Chairman of the Board at Lantmännen.
The foundation funds applied research that can strengthen farming, develop new foods and contribute to a more sustainable and bio-based society.
This year’s call covers three priority areas:
Agriculture and Machinery: Research that strengthens profitable, sustainable and robust crop production and livestock production.
Food and Health: Research into foods and ingredients of the future, based on grains, legumes and meat.
Bioenergy and Green Materials: Research that uses agricultural raw materials and side streams for bioenergy, green materials and other bio-based products.
The projects should have clear relevance for agriculture, the food value chain or Lantmännen’s operations. Lantmännen Research Foundation therefore works actively to build networks with broad expertise from academia, industry and practical agriculture.
“Applicants are welcome to contact us before submitting their applications, to discuss project ideas and hear more about Lantmännen’s opportunities to offer raw materials, products or other resources for the project,” says Helena Fredriksson, Head of Research at Lantmännen Research Foundation.
To make it easier to follow calls for proposals, research results and current projects, the foundation is also launching a newsletter. The newsletter is aimed broadly at researchers, farmers and others who want to follow how research can contribute to a more sustainable, profitable and robust food system.
