ROK Stars ABK Bavarian Beer awarded 3 gold medals

ABK's Edel, Hell and Rose beers all rated 'exceptional' in blind tasting reviews by the BTI's panel of expert judges

26-Nov-2014 - Germany

ROK Stars PLC, the consumer products and environmental technologies development company, has announced its ABK Bavarian Beers have been awarded 3 Gold Medals at the Beverage Testing Institute's prestigious 'World Beer Championships' held earlier this month in Chicago.

The Beverage Testing Institute (BTI) is the only full-time professional product review organisation specialising in beverages.  Begun in 1981, the BTI's mission is to provide frank, unbiased information and ratings in order for the drinks consumer to make dependable choices.

The BTI accepts no advertising from the companies who enter their products for review and all judging, conducted by panels of experts, is on a blind-tasting basis. The BTI panel of judges evaluate competition entrants using the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) approved 'Hedonic Scale' of measurement and evaluation.

ROK Stars acquired the majority interest in the historic 700 year old Aktien Brauerei in Kaufbeuren, Bavaria in May 2013 and has since re-designed and re-packaged a range of beers for international export under the brand 'ABK Beer - Since 1308'.

Commenting, Jonathan Kendrick, Chairman of ROK Stars said "While ABK have been winning dozens of awards in Germany for its beers over the past century or so, we are enormously proud that our beers have now been rated as exceptional by such a prestigious judging panel as the BTI in the United States. Such awards are key to our global deployment plans for our beers which, for the first time since the brewery was founded in 1308, are now available in new markets such as China, the United States, the UK and Singapore."

Charlie Cindric of C2 Imports, the US distributor for ABK Beer, added "Winning 3 Gold Medals at the World Beer Championships is a fantastic endorsement for the quality of these outstanding beers. In fact, ABK Edel outscored every other German beer in the World Beer Championships competition. These awards, backed by the brewery's 700 year old history, will prove to be of great interest to the growing numbers of craft and heritage beer fans across the United States."

With a growing drinks portfolio which, in addition to ABK Beer, includes UB Real Irish Whiskey and Bogart's Real English Gin, ROK Drinks was co-founded by John Paul DeJoria, known as 'America's favourite entrepreneur,' and British entrepreneur Jonathan Kendrick.

John Paul DeJoria is best known as the co-founder of Paul Mitchell, the largest privately held hair care business in North America, as well as being co-founder of Patron tequila, the world's Number 1 premium tequila brand. (dpa)
