The humble sausage wins out as Germany's top Christmas dinner
As Christmas dinner preparations start gaining momentum across the globe, many Germans take a relaxed approach to the festive meal, which pollsters have found most commonly consists of a simple boiled sausage and some potato salad.
A weekend survey released by YouGov research institute found Bockwurst sausage to be the most popular option for Christmas dinner, with 26 per cent of Germans eating it on December 24, when presents are exchanged and families traditionally gather to decorate the Christmas tree.
Roast meat, steak and schnitzel each polled at 14 per cent, with only 9 per cent of those asked going to the trouble of roasting a goose. The representative survey asked 1,128 people what they would be having for dinner on Christmas Eve. (dpa)
