Von Mühlenen can look back on a long and proven tradition of producing selected cheese products in Switzerland.

At the beginning of the 19th century, Swiss farmers began to move cheese production to the valleys, after centuries of making their cheese at higher altitudes in the picturesque Alpine regions during the summer months. Centralized and growing production required larger cellars, and many new cheese maturing companies emerged.

The Von Mühlenen family founded their cheese ripening company with ripening cellars in 1861. Since then, it has been an important player in the history of Swiss cheese production. In recent years, it has demonstrated its ongoing commitment to this important market through its involvement in the AOC certification of Le Gruyère Switzerland and Emmentaler Switzerland cheeses.

Von Mühlenen has been run as a family business since its foundation in 1861 and was taken over by Cremo SA in 2006. It is located in Düdingen, near Fribourg, a region known for its Le Gruyère Fribourg, Emmentaler Switzerland and many raw milk specialties. Cheese specialists from Cremo SA take care of production and business operations on a daily basis.

Von Mühlenen's cheese products are preferably made from pure raw milk using traditional ripening methods that have been tried and tested for over 140 years. Production takes place in over 15 cheese dairies in selected regions of Switzerland, which produce traditional cheeses such as Emmentaler Switzerland, Le Gruyère Switzerland AOC Fribourg and many other well-known house specialties.
