MEGGLE Holding SE, headquartered in Wasserburg am Inn, is continuing its growth trajectory. With the acquisition of the Rücker dairy, which operates locations in Aurich and Wismar, MEGGLE is strengthening its market position and further expanding its cheese product segment – an area that has played a strategically important role since the acquisition of the current MEGGLE Cheese GmbH in 2021. This move creates one of the largest private dairies in Germany.
On March 18, 1887, Josef Anton Meggle I. laid the foundation for today’s MEGGLE Group in the Wasserburg. More than 135 years later, MEGGLE Holding SE is acquiring the traditional Rücker dairy, which itself boasts over 135 years of company history and ranks among the largest private cheese dairies in Germany. With this step, MEGGLE emphasizes the importance of the cheese segment, drives its expansion forward, and aligns itself with its growing organizational structure through the adoption of the SE legal form.
“The acquisition of the Rücker dairy is another significant milestone for us. With Rücker, we are gaining a healthy company that not only has an impressive history but also brings extensive expertise and innovative strength in cheese and dairy processing. Together, we will pool our competencies, make investments, and lay the foundation for further growth,” explains Matthias Oettel, CEO of MEGGLE Holding SE.
“With MEGGLE, we have found a partner that, as a long-standing family business, shares similar values and where strategy and product portfolios complement each other well. We are confident that our company will find a good home here,” says Klaus Rücker, managing partner of the Rücker dairy. Rücker is considered a quality leader in the German market for Hirtenkäse and has extensive expertise and state-of-the-art facilities in milk-rich regions. In 2024, the company generated revenues of around 500 million euros and employed approximately 610 people at its Aurich and Wismar locations.
“Following the successful integration of Stegmann Emmentaler Käsereien GmbH, now operating as MEGGLE Cheese GmbH, the acquisition of Rücker dairy is the next logical step in our strategy to further develop the cheese segment as one of our core areas. MEGGLE and Rücker share a common philosophy rooted in quality, tradition, and innovation – the ideal foundation for a successful collaboration,” adds Matthias Oettel.
The acquisition is subject to approval by the competition authorities.
