Vion Agrees on Sale of Buchloe Production Site to ABP
Vion Food Group has agreed on the sale of its Buchloe site to ABP Food Group (“ABP”). Following the recently announced agreements for the sale of Crailsheim and Waldkraiburg, this marks a further step in the divestment process of Vion’s German operations. The transaction remains subject to antitrust approval and customary closing conditions.
Vion Food Group has signed an agreement with the Irish headquartered ABP for the sale of the Buchloe site. Tjarda Klimp, CEO Vion Food Group: “Buchloe is located in one of Bavaria’s strongest livestock regions and has a long-standing role in the regional supply chain. ABP as the potential new owner is well positioned to build on these strengths and further develop the site.”
ABP is a family-owned business, and together with its affiliates, has operations across Ireland, the UK, and continental Europe. As a recognised leader in beef processing, the company brings together generations of expertise with a strong commitment to quality, sustainability, and close partnerships with farmers. This combination creates a strong foundation for the future of the Buchloe site, ensuring reliable market access for both farmers and customers, further supported by Buchloe’s expertise. Throughout the process, ABP has shown clear and consistent commitment, reinforcing confidence that the site will be in capable hands.
The Buchloe production site processes approximately 90,000 cattle per year and employs around 270 people.
Tjarda Klimp, CEO of Vion Food Group: “We are pleased to announce this third agreement following a thorough and complex process. Throughout, we have taken a careful and balanced approach, considering the interests of all relevant stakeholders to identify the right strategic partners for these German sites. We are confident that these partners will support the continued development of the sites, contributing to a sustainable and successful future.”
The intended transaction is structured as an asset deal. Until closing of the transaction, Buchloe will remain fully operational, with Vion maintaining existing supply chains, supplier and customer relationships while fulfilling all commitments. Closing remains subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions and, in line with the other announced transactions, is expected within the coming months.
