Zermatt Matterhorn Brauerei AG

The Valais village has one more attraction: "Zermatt Matterhorn Brauerei AG" celebrated its opening on Saturday, July 11, 2015. The toast was raised with "Zermatt Bier" - the first local beer from Zermatt, brewed at the foot of the Matterhorn.

The unfiltered specialty beer with an alcohol content of five percent by volume and a fruity, sweet body is brewed with pure mountain water from the Valais Alps, aromatic hop varieties and barley malt. Only natural ingredients are used throughout the production process.

Since July 2016, the new unfiltered lager "Monte Rosa" has been added to our product range. The "Monte Rosa" is a golden yellow, finely aroma-hopped lager and a symbol of the highest art of brewing at the foot of the Matterhorn.

The modern microbrewery at the entrance to the village of Spiss has a fully automatic bottling plant and a brewhouse with a capacity of 10 hectoliters. Experienced master brewer Andreas Falk is ideally placed to produce further outstanding beer products under the "Zermatt Bier" brand and establish a local beer culture.

For the sake of the environment, the brewery uses returnable bottles that are rinsed and refilled. For every bottle of "Zermatt Bier" sold, two centimes go to the Zermatt Mountain Guides Association. The malt residue (spent grains) is used to produce other local quality products such as spent grains bread and spent grains sausage. The Zermatt beers "Matterhorn" and "Monte Rosa" can be purchased directly from the brewery. Further sales outlets are being planned.
