Shell Eggs Recalled Over Salmonella Risk
Kenneth Miller Farms of New Lebanon, Ohio is voluntarily recalling shell eggs due to possible contamination with the harmful food borne bacteria Salmonella enteritidis.
The recalled eggs include those sold directly to consumers, as well as eggs sold to Lucky's Taproom & Eatery and the Mudlick Tavern.
The problem came to light when farm environmental samples collected by the Ohio Department of Agriculture tested positive for Salmonella enteritidis as part of an investigation into illnesses reported by Dayton and Montgomery County Public Health.
Remember, Lucky's Taproom was in the news recently as its homemade mayonnaise was blamed for the recent Salmonella outbreak which sickened 80 people. Twenty people who had eaten at Lucky's between the dates of February 12 through February 29 tested positive for Salmonella.
Salmonella infections can lead to diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after exposure to the organism. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days, and most persons recover without treatment. However, in some persons, the diarrhea may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalized.
Consumers who have recently purchased eggs from Kenneth Miller can return them for a full refund. (dpa)
