SIG Combibloc qualifies downstream equipment from Mariani

29-Jun-2016 - Germany

With Italian downstream manufacturer Mariani, SIG Combibloc now has an additional partner to enable it to offer complete solutions for food and beverage industry customers – from the filling machine right up to the palletising.

For SIG Combibloc, a smooth production process does not end after the filling machine or the applicator. Without the corresponding downstream equipment that can keep pace with production, a technologically brilliant, fast filling machine is virtually worthless. To enable customers from the food and beverage industry to utilise the potential of the SIG Combibloc filling machines, the process must continue reliably beyond the filling process.

The first SIG Combibloc customer to have downstream equipment from Mariani in operation in combination with a filling machine from SIG Combibloc is Zarin Jam Marina. The photo shows the Mariani downstream for combidome – tested at the supplier’s site before it was shipped to Marina.

Stefan Mergel, Head of Downstream & Procurement Engineering at SIG Combibloc: “We consider it our job and our responsibility to create the conditions to ensure that the cartons filled on our machines reach the consumer safely and undamaged – even if we don’t provide the downstream equipment ourselves. For many years, we have an excellent partner in Meurer when it comes to offering our customers first-class final packaging solutions. That won’t be changing in the future, because the cooperation works extremely well. To expand the range of options for our customers and avoid potential supply bottlenecks, we’ve therefore decided to qualify another supplier for downstream equipment. We’re confident that with Mariani, we’ve found an excellent manufacturer whose range and experience will benefit our customers and ourselves. Together with our partners, we will continue to drive forward development in the area of downstream systems”.

50 years of experience

Mariani is one of the leading companies in the design, development and construction of innovative solutions for automated end-packaging lines. Founded in 1960, Mariani now employs 120 people. The company exports its equipment to more than 45 countries. Mariani’s customers include leading companies from the food and beverage industry, the pharmaceuticals industry and from areas such as print products and personal care items.

Stefan Mergel: “Mariani has many years’ experience with leading manufacturers from our industry, all over the world. The company is one of the most experienced and reputable suppliers in this sector. And in terms of its business attitude too, Mariani is a very good fit for us. Mariani sees itself, as we do, as a partner to our customers, and focuses on providing flexible, individual and reliable solutions. Service is the top priority. Another crucial reason for us is that Mariani’s portfolio includes palletising systems. The high degree of automation of Mariani’s equipment is also a factor. The operator can control the downstream process from the HMI, and only needs to intervene for a format change or in the event of a malfunction. In terms of the requirements of highly automated production in the future, this is vital. In this area, with Mariani we have an extremely innovative and reliable partner at our side”.

The first SIG Combibloc customer to have downstream equipment from Mariani in operation in combination with a filling machine from SIG Combibloc is Zarin Jam Marina. The Iranian company is using downstream equipment provided by Mariani for the new combidome filling machine from SIG Combibloc. A tray-packer and a tray-wrapper pack the filled combidome carton packs for transport. Bamdad Ghafari, Area Sales Manager Iranat SIG Combibloc: “The collaboration with Mariani went extremely well – and the customer, Marina, is very happy with the solution. I think this very successful project is a good example of how, with innovative products, dedicated partners and a high level of customer focus, we can continue to grow”.

In Asia as well, a customer has decided to use downstream equipment from the Italian supplier for its new high-speed filling machines from SIG Combibloc.
