Food courier Deliveroo pulls out of 10 German cities
Deliveroo is to wind down its operations in ten German cities to focus on building up its operations in larger cities, the food delivery company announced Thursday.
"Deliveroo is concentrating on cities where we are expanding quickly: Berlin, Munich, Cologne, Hamburg and Frankfurt," the company, which is based in Britain, said. Deliveroo wants to work with more drivers and restaurants in these locations.
More than 130 drivers are to be affected, as business magazine Gruenderszene.de reported citing Deliveroo Germany manager Felix Chobrog. The real number could be higher: very few Deliveroo drivers are employees, whereas many are freelancers.
The food courier will no longer offer its services in Essen, Dortmund, Dresden, Leipzig, Mainz, Stuttgart, Bonn, Dusseldorf, Hanover or Nuremberg as of mid-September. (dpa)
